Jared Leto doesn’t think a gay leading man would get the same opportunities in Hollywood

By Will Stroude

In an interview with GQ, Jared Leto has spoken up about Hollywood’s “very conservative” attitudes with regards to casting gay men in leading roles.

“I definitely don’t think a gay leading man would have the same opportunities as a straight leading man. I don’t think that,” he said.

“I don’t know if that’s offensive or not, but that’s my thought right now. It shouldn’t be that way.”

Jared, who has “never had a specific idea of masculinity” went on to talk about his views on gender, saying: “We’re in an interesting time right now where people are exploring all kinds of different ideas of identity, not just masculinity or femininity.”

The Suicide Squad actor, playing The Joker in the new film, ended by saying he hoped that Hollywood would open up as he thinks “there’s room for everything”.
