Jaden Smith uses Vogue Shoot to continue pushing gender norms

By Troy Nankervis

Rising star Jaden Smith has appeared in another fashion shoot where he’s pushed the boundaries of gender fluidity, gender norms and masculinity.

In an image shared to Instagram, the 17-year-old model stands shirtless with his arms folded for Vogue Korea. Wearing a woman’s skirt and a flower in his year, the still is captioned with “Just Come Here”.

It was several weeks ago that Smith also became the face of Louis Vuitton’s Spring Summer 2016 campaign, and was photographed by Bruce Weber wearing a series of garments that were unveiled at Paris Fashion Week.

Last year, Smith shared a picture of himself to Instagram wearing a dress he had purchased from Topshop, adding the caption: “Went to TopShop to buy Girl Clothes, I mean ‘Clothes.’”

The son of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith follows in the footsteps on other young celebrities, including Miley Cyrus and Eurovision winner Conchita, who have started a conversation around gender binary and what it means to be gender fluid.
