Hollyoaks star becomes first trans actress to receive a BAFTA nomination

Hollyoaks star Annie Wallace has become the first transgender actress to receive a BAFTA nomination, Digital Spy reports.
Wallace described herself as being “delighted and overwhelmed” to be nominated for Best Actress at the Scottish BAFTAs. She faces competition from Outlander’s Caitriona Balfe and Catastrophe’s Ashley Jenson on the night, which takes place in November.

The actress joined the show in 2015 as Hollyoaks High headteacher Sally St Claire, before being revealed to be John Paul’s parent. She is also the first trans character to be played by a trans actor in a British soap.
Hollyoaks previously featured Attitude Editor-At-Large Paris Lees as herself, and included transgender character Blessing Chambers, alothough she was played by cisgender actress Modupe Adeyeye.
