Glee’s Amber Riley delivers stunning rendition of Dreamgirls’ ‘I Am Changing’

By Fabio Crispim

She sang ‘And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going’ as Mercedes Jones in the smash hit musical comedy Glee, and now actor Amber Riley is bringing Effie to the West End, in the first ever London production of Dreamgirls.

In a new video, the actor and singer – who played Mercedes Jones in Ryan Murphy’s hit Fox show about a high school show choir – chats with her choreographer and delivers a jaw-dropping rendition of Dreamgirls number ‘I Am Changing’.

Former "Glee" star Amber Riley.

Speaking about her upcoming role, the 30-year-old said: “The thing that excites me about Effie is that it’s challenging.

“I played a teenager for such a young time, and even though [Effie] is young in the beginning, she has this full arc, you know, and there’s this full evolution that happens for this character”.

Dreamgirls won six Tony Awards and two Grammys when it first opened in America in 1981, and was famously turned into an Oscar-winning film starring Beyoncé and Jennifer Hudson back in 2006.

The new production opens on the 19 November 2016 at the Savoy Theatre in London, with ever night promising to offer 100 “accessibly priced” seats, including £20 seats available in advance and £15 day seats available on the day of the performance.
