‘Glee’ actor for HBO show about gay man, straight brothers
By Josh Haggis
HBO is developing a show revolving around a gay man and his two straight brothers, it has been announced.
Bros will star Glee’s Dijon Talton as Kendall, a gay man trying to survive modern life while maintaining his relationships with his two straight brothers (Kevin Phillips and Tuffy Questell).
The show – originally titled Bros Before Hos – will be directed by Anthony Hemingway, who has previously worked on hit show’s including The Wire and CSI: New York, reports Deadline.
Speaking at an industry event, Jones explained that he created the series out of his frustration with the lack of programming on television dealing with the real life stories of black men.
“Bros Before Hos isn’t a black story or a gay story — it’s a family story about three brothers, who happen to be black, and one who happens to be gay,” said Jones. “There seem to be more stories that deal with the interior lives of black women, but it’s hard to find stories that deal with the interior lives of black men.
“We’re either thugs or athletes, but there’s so much more to who we are that falls in between that spectrum. It’s ironic that in 2014, and even with a black president, one of the hardest things to be in this country right now is a young black man.”
