Former S Club Juniors star Jay Perry makes debut in lead role of West End’s ‘Hamilton’
The musical theatre star has won praise for his first performance as US founding father Alexander Hamilton.

The West End’s Hamilton has seen new face take on the titular role of US founding father Alexander Hamilton in the form of former S Club Juniors star Jay Perry.
The 30-year-old stage star, who serves the stand-in for Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr in the London production of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Tony Award-winning period musical masterpiece, made his debut in the show’s lead role on Tuesday night (7 January).
Perry, who scored six UK Top 10 hits as part of S Club Juniors after joining the S Club 7 spin-off group in 2001 as a 12-year-old, previously starred as ‘Berry Gordy’ in the West End production of Motown: The Musical before joining the cast of Hamilton last October.
Those in the audience on Tuesday night were full of praise for Perry’s performance, with one claiming to be “blown away” by his turn in the famously difficult role, which was first seen on Broadway in 2015.
“You were absolutely superb in last night’s show. Your performance crackled with energy”, one fan wrote on social media.

Taking to Twitter following to the performance, Perry claimed he “had a blast” on stage, and joked about the number of lyrics he had to remember, writing: “Muscle memory kicks in thank goodness!”
