Exeter man loses boyfriend over Kardashians phobia

A 24-year-old man from Exeter has spoken candidly about his phobia of Kim Kardashian and her famous family – and revealed that he even lost a boyfriend over it.
Mike Amess, a shop assistant from Exeter, discusses his extreme physical and mental reaction to the clan of US reality stars in a lengthy interview with The Daily Mail.
Amess, who is gay, explains in the interview that he believes his phobia stems from watching Kim Kardashian’s infamous sex tape as a teenager – which he decided to do because of his Catholic upbringing and fear of being gay.
“I thought I’d give it a watch in the hope it would turn me on,” he recalls. “But the sight of Kim writhing around with her huge bum and the sound of her horrible high-pitched wailing repulsed me.”
“The experience left me terrified and I never wanted to see Kim’s face again,” he adds.
However, it’s not just Kim Kardashian, wife of Kanye West, that the Devon man finds so traumatising. “Kim and her sisters look and sound so similar. They’re a mess. They make my stomach churn, I hate it,” he says.
Amess also claims that his unique phobia has affected his ability to hold down a relationship, saying: “A lot of the gay community love the Kardashians so it makes dating tough sometimes. I’ve been romantically involved with several people who like them and each one of these relationships have ended badly.”
Amess goes on to recall that his last relationship ended after his now ex-boyfriend called his phobia “immature” and “attention-seeking”.
“In the end, it became difficult spending time with him and definitely played a role in our break-up,” Amess claims.
