Emma Roberts is returning to ‘American Horror Story’ as ‘Coven’s Madison Montgomery

The b*tch is back.

By Will Stroude

Just in case you weren’t already excited enough about American Horror Story’s upcoming Murder House/Coven crossover, one of the most iconic characters of the show’s eight-year run looks set to be making a return.

Yep, Emma Roberts is set to reprise her role as Coven’s scene-stealing Madison Montgomery, the coke-addled Hollywood starlet and witch who tore through Miss Robichaux’s Academy like a telekinetic Regina George on steroids back in 2013.

Roberts, who appeared in Coven and 2014’s Freak Show before making a one-off return to the series for an episode of Cult last year, teased her American Horror Story comeback in a video on Instagram on Sunday, delivering Madison’s now-immortal line: “Surprise b*tch – bet you thought you’d seen the last of me.”

Of course, Madison was last seen in Coven being *spoiler alert!* strangled to death by her zombified former boyfriend Kyle (Evan Peters), but while it’s not known whether the “stone-cold b*tch who loves hard-drinking, big d*cks and trouble” will be seen in this life or the next, given that she’s been resurrected once before after having her throat slit, we wouldn’t put another comeback from the pits of Hell past her.

It’s just Madison who’ll be making a return, either: Series creator Ryan Murphy confirmed on Twitter that “all the witches” from Coven have been asked back, and Sarah Paulson implied she’ll be reprising her role as reigning Supreme Cordelia, tweeting: “PEOPLE MY NAME IS CORDELIA GOODE”.

Paulson added that the script for season 8 of American Horror Story was one of the show’s “best” yet.

“I want you all to know that I think the first script for AHS8 is one of our best… can’t wait for you guys to see it!” the actress teased on Twitter.

There’s also been plenty of banter between Roberts and Paulson on Twitter which has left us drolling at the prospect of a Madison-Cordelia showdown.

Responding to a message from Paulson saying “Hi Madison…I’ve missed you” Roberts wrote, “Why hello to the Supreme!” before adding: “Supreme for now I should say*** hehe”.

The overall theme for season 8 remains tightly under wraps, but we do know that it’s set in the near future and will feature the legendary Dame Joan Collins in a “glamourous” role.

“It’s a very high concept”, Murphy teased in an interview with Entertainment Weekly last week.

“It’s a season unlike anything we’ve done because there’s a big hook to it. There’s a huge thing that happens in episode 5.”

American Horror Story season 8 is expected to premiere in the US on FX and in the UK on Fox this autumn.
