Elton John accuses Janet Jackson of lip-syncing during live shows

By Troy Nankervis

Legendary musician Sir Elton John would rather watch a drag queen than see Janet Jackson perform live, accusing the ‘All For You’ singer of lip-syncing on stage.

While on the publicity trail for his 32nd studio album, the 68-year-old told Rolling Stone he was amazed the sister of the late Michael Jackson had such a strong following from fans and critics alike.

“You know, f*****g music magazines writing a review of Janet Jackson saying, ‘This is the greatest show – four and a half stars.’ It’s f–king lip-synced! Hello! That’s not a show!” he said.

“I’d rather go and see a drag queen. F–k off.”

It’s not the first time the John has been at the centre of celebrity spats. He famously faced off with Madonna in the nineties after accusing the ‘Vogue’ singer of lip-syncing during her live concerts.

“I say what I feel,” he said.

“I probably went too far with Madonna, and I got very personal and I wrote her – she was very gracious.”

A 40 year feud with the late David Bowie was also sparked after the ‘Rocket Man’ singer was described by Bowie as “rock’n’roll’s token queen”.

“David and I were not the best of friends towards the end. We started out being really good friends,” he said.

John has also been unapologetic for slamming tour partner Billy Joel’s drinking habits.

“He’s one of the great American songwriters. But I know when people used to say to me, ‘You’re wasting your life,’ I’d go, ‘F**k off!’ and I wouldn’t speak to them for two years,” he said.

“Billy was pissed, and I understand. But does it mean I don’t love him? No, of course not.”
