Ellen & Portia fire back at D&G: ‘It’s stupid, they’re ignorant’

By Josh Haggis

Ellen DeGeneres and wife Portia De Rossi have spoken out against Dolce & Gabbana.

The legendary designers have been at the centre of intense media scrutiny following comments in an Italian magazine where they strongly spoke out against same-sex parents, arguing that “the only family is the traditional one” and suggesting that babies born via IVF treatment are “synthetic children”.

A long list of celebrities including Madonna, Elton John and Victoria Beckham criticised the duo for their comments, with the Queen of Pop arguing that they need to “think before they speak” next time. Find out more here.

During an interview at the GLAAD Media Awards over the weekend – where Rossi’s Scandal co-star Kerry Washington made an impassioned speech about marriage equality – the couple shared their anger over the controversial anti-gay remarks, claiming that they will “never, ever” wear D&G’s clothes again.

“There are no thoughts, it’s not even worth commenting on. They’re just ignorant. It’s like, what?” said DeGeneres.

“We’re all entitled to free speech, however, I don’t even understand who they are. I don’t know why they would want to say that,” said Rossi, before DeGeneres added: “It’s stupid. I’ll never wear their clothes ever, ever again and I’m sure a lot of people feel the same way.”
