By Will Stroude

Ed Sheeran has nabbed himself a role in one of the most hotly-anticipated films of 2016 – and he’s got the pictures to prove it.

The Grammy-nominated singer has reportedly landed a speaking part opposite in the third Bridget Jones outing, Bridget Jones’s Baby, after impressing producers when they were filming scenes for the movie at one of his concerts in Dublin earlier this year.

“Spent the day being an actor in the new Bridget Jones movie,” Sheeran wrote on Instagram yesterday (November 23), alongside a pic of he and the film’s leading lady, Renée Zellweger.

“Loved it, you’re gonna love it too.”

Plot details for Bridget Jones’s Baby are being kept under wraps, but given the title, it’s seems a fair bet that Bridge is going to be expecting.

The film will see Colin Firth reprise his role as Bridget’s on-off partner Mark Darcy, while Grey’s Anatomy star Patrick Dempsey has also been added to the cast, following the news that Hugh Grant will not be reprising his role as Daniel Cleaver.

A source The Sun: “Ed was really keen to be part of the movie after granting access to film at his gig.

“He’s got experience playing himself in Home and Away and is not daunted by the prospect of starring alongside Renée.”

Bridget Jones’s Baby is believed to be based on a series of newspaper columns written by series creator Helen Fielding, and not on the the third official novel, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, which was published in 2013 and saw Bridget living as a single mother following the death of Mark Darcy.

The film is is expected to hit cinemas in September 2016.
