Drag Race UK viewers react to queen’s shocking decision in episode four

Spoiler warning.

By Will Stroude

OK, so who saw that coming?

In a season already high on gaggery and gumption, RuPaul’s Drag Race UK left viewers stunned on Thursday night after Ginny Lemon made franchise HERSTORY by refusing to take part in the lip sync and eliminating herself from the competition by default.

Episode four of series two had seen the queens put their improvisational skills to the test on a comedy morning TV show, Morning Glory, with Queen of Daytime TV Lorraine serving as a guest judge.

Following a hit and miss maxi challenge, it was Ginny Lemon and close friend Sister Sister who found themselves in the bottom two, where they were asked to lip sync for their lives to Kim Wilde’s ‘You Keep Me Hangin’ On’.

In a twist no one saw coming, however, as soon as the beat kicked in Ginny promptly below the judges a kiss and sashayed her way off-stage, with nothing but a gleeful cackle to mark her own self-imposed exit from the competition.

Confused judges, queens and viewers watched on in shock as it became apparent that Ginny wasn’t returning to the runway – and had in fact “BenDeLaCreme’d herself”, in the words of Tayce.

Sister Sister managed to remain unshaken as she completed the lip sync solo, where she was promptly saved by RuPaul – though not before Alan Carr delivered the dead-pan line: “Who you gonna go for?”

Speaking in the workroom about her shock decision to walk, Ginny said: “I was up against my sister, Sister, and I couldn’t. I just couldn’t. I love her too much.”

The Worcester queen added: “I would have regretted it if I’d tried to fight against something that I didn’t want to fight against.

“I don’t think I’ve tapped out of the competition. I don’t think it’s disrespectful. I did it for me.”

Naturally, the internet exploded as the scenes played out. Check out some of the best reactions below:

With next week’s episode set to see Ru announce to the remaining queens that the coronavirus pandemic has shut down production, the drama is only set to increase following Ginny’s elimination. What a series it’s been so far…

RuPaul’s Drag Race UK continues on Thursday nights on BBC iPlayer from 7pm.
