Donald Trump claims he’d win against Oprah in a presidential race

The US President said it'd be "a lot of fun" to campaign against her

Donald Trump has claimed he would win in a presidential race against Oprah Winfrey.

The Republican leader made the comments on Tuesday (January 9) during a White House meeting in which he addressed speculation surrounding Oprah Winfrey’s 2020 presidential bid.

When asked about the rumours Trump claimed that he’d win the race, Time reported.

“Yeah, I’ll beat Oprah,” he declared before adding that campaining against her “would be a lot of fun.”

He then said: “I know her very well. I like Oprah. I don’t think she’s going to run.”

The news comes after Oprah’s best friend, CBS This Morning host Gayle King, revealed the 64-year-old chat show host is “intrigued” by the idea, though she isn’t currently considering it.

She explained: “I absolutely don’t think her position has changed. I do think she’s intrigued by the idea, I do think that. I also know that after years of watching the Oprah show, you always have the right to change your mind. I don’t think at this point she is actually considering it.”

Winfrey has been surrounded by presidential buzz since her Golden Globes speech on Sunday night, and a number of celebrities have already begun backing her including Adam Lambert and Lady Gaga.

Just last year the legendary chat show host dismissed rumours of her run for presidency, but noted that Trump’s victory made her rethink the requirement of office.

Will we see her run for president in 2020? Only time will tell.
