‘Doctor Who’ casts ‘Emmerdale’ actor as recurring character

Samuel Anderson has joined the cast of Doctor Who.
The actor – who played Ross Kirk in Emmerdale until 2009 – will appear as a recurring character in the upcoming eighth series of the BBC show.
He will star alongside new Doctor Peter Capaldi and companion Jenna Coleman in the series, which is currently in production in Wales.
Anderson will play Danny Pink, a colleague of companion Clara Oswald (Coleman) at Coal Hill School.
On joining Doctor Who, Anderson said: “I was so excited to join Doctor Who I wanted to jump and click my heels, but I was scared I might not come down before filming started
“It’s a quintessential part of British culture and I can’t believe I’m part of it. It’s an honour to be able to work alongside Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman and I can’t wait to show people how my character becomes involved with such a fantastic duo!”
Of course, this isn’t the first time that two teachers from Coal Hill School have become involved with the Doctor. Ian Chesterton and Barbara Wright were companions to William Hartnell’s first Doctor all the way back in 1963.
Doctor Who‘s head writer Steven Moffat teased: “Sam Anderson as Danny Pink will be entering the world of the Doctor. But how and why? Answers are coming later this year in Peter Capaldi’s first series of Doctor Who!”
Doctor Who returns to BBC One later this year.
