Daniel Brocklebank says he was ‘overlooked’ for roles because of his sexuality

The openly gay actor is best known for starring in 'Coronation Street'

Daniel Brocklebank claims he has been “overlooked” for roles because of his sexuality.

The actor has starred in a number of movies and TV shows including Shakespeare in Love, The Hours alongside Meryl Streep but is probably most recognisable for his role as the openly gay vicar Billy Mayhew in Coronation Street.

However, while speaking to OK! Magazine, Brocklebank revealed he believes he hasn’t been given roles because of his sexuality.

He said: “When I was growing up, there were very few positive gay role models in the media.

“If someone sees this and thinks, it’s OK to be who I am, then it was worth making those sacrifices all those years ago, as I’m fairly certain I was overlooked for some roles because I was gay.”
