Chucky interview: ‘I may be disturbed, but I’m not uncivilised’
The boy toy-turned-bad talks Taylor Swift, supporting an LGBTQ child and finding contentment at work.

If you thought the Christmas season was murder at the best of times, wait till you see who’s back on screen.
Yes, Chucky — everyone’s favourite demonic doll! Queer film icon Jennifer Tilly reprises her role from the classic film series as Tiffany Valentine, while actor Zackary Arthur plays the lead character, Jake Wheeler, a gay teenager in a small American town who recently lost his mother and has to deal with his abusive, alcoholic father and bullies at school. (We told you it was festive!)
After Jake finds Chucky at a local yard sale, the redheaded reprobate finds itself at the heart of a series of horrifying murders that slowly expose the town’s deep hypocrisies and hidden secrets. Sounds like a regular family Christmas Day at our Aunty Jean’s, if you ask us.

Favourite lie you ever told?
“I’m your friend till the end.” Kids are fucking idiots, they fall for it every time.
Favourite place to escape?
Montenegro, because no extradition, duh, but it’s also a UN, NATO, and pending EU member. I may be disturbed, but I’m not uncivilised.
Favourite song?
Taylor Swift’s ‘All Too Well’. Just fucking heartbreaking.
Favourite possession?
[My wife] Tiffany, she’s the gift that keeps on giving. Four movies, a multi-talented kid, and one hit TV series later. Plus, she actually signed a pre-nup!

Favourite LGBTQ trailblazer?
My kid Glen/Glenda, for having the guts to be who they want to be. And for just having guts, generally. Though my God, you’d think they’re old enough now to clean up after themselves.
Favourite noise?
My own laughter when I’m killing someone. It reminds me how much I love my job.
Favourite quote?
“How people die remains in the memory of those who live on” – Dame Cicely Saunders. Perfect description of why we both got into this business.
Favourite villain?
Camilla Parker Bowles. I was flattered when your tabloids called her the ‘Bride of Chucky’. Though Tiff sure wasn’t.
