Busy Philipps has said that her eldest child Birdie is gay and uses they/them pronouns.
The I Feel Pretty! actress shared the news on her podcast Busy Philipps is Doing Her Best, broadcast on New Year’s Eve.
The star, along with husband Marc Silverstein, is a parent to two children: Birdie, 12 and Cricket, seven.
“Yeah, talk about it on the podcast, Mom”
Saying “I love that kid”, the Busy Tonight star explained: “I said: ‘You know Bird, I’ve been doing a bad job with the pronouns,’ because Birdie said that they would like their pronouns to be they/them.
“I haven’t been doing it and I’ve said because like I have this public persona and I want Birdie to be in control of their own narrative and not have to answer to anybody outside of our friends and family if they don’t want to.
“And then Bird was like: ‘I don’t give a f***. You can talk about that I’m gay and out. You can talk about my pronouns.
“That would be cool with me. That’s great.'”
Good for them!
Busy, 41, then asked Birdie: ‘”OK, I’m just, I’ll – I can talk about it on the podcast?” And Birdie was like: ‘Yeah, talk about it on the podcast, Mom.’ I’m like: ‘OK!'”
Adding that she “f***s up” sometimes with pronouns, Busy added: “I’m trying my best at that too.”
Busy’s other screen credits include Dawson’s Creek, Cougar Town and Freaks and Geeks.
