Boy George offers to cover the costs of Pete Burns’ funeral

By Josh Lee

Boy George will pay for Dead Or Alive frontman Pete Burns’ funeral, the Sun reports.

Pete Burns died aged 57 on October 25, following a cardiac arrest. At the time, Boy George was one of a number of famous faces who paid tribute to the queer icon on Twitter. He wrote that Burns “was one of our great true eccentrics and such a big part of my life!”

Yesterday (October 30), a source has told The Sun that the Boy George reached out to Burns’ ex-wife Lynne Corlett and widower Michael Simpson to help cover funeral expenses.

“It is very sad, but Pete died absolutely penniless and there is no money for a funeral,” the source told The Sun.

“At one point Lynne and Michael were discussing with Pete’s friends about setting up a crowdfunding page to pay for it.

“But people were not happy about that as they thought it would be undignified for Pete.

“When George got wind of this, he offered to pay for the whole thing straight away. He thinks [Lynne] and Michael have enough on their plates and wanted to take this concern away from them.

“It is strangely fitting that one Eighties legend should help out another in this way,” they added
