Josh Gad and former Attitude cover star Luke Evans are to reprise their roles as Beauty and the Beast‘s LeFou and Gaston in a new Disney+ prequel series.

The actors starred as the characters in the 2017 live-action remake of the 1991 animated original Beauty and the Beast.

According to Deadline, the eight-episode limited musical series will see Gaston, LeFou and LeFou’s stepsister, Tilly (Briana Middleton) embark on ‘an unexpected journey filled with romance, comedy, and adventure.’

Tony Award-nominated director Liesl Tommy (Eclipsed) will helm episode one, reports the publication. The show’s working title is Beauty and the Best; it’s scheduled to drop in spring 2022.

Comments Gary Marsh, president and chief creative officer of Disney Branded Television: “For anyone who’s ever wondered how a brute like Gaston and a goof like LeFou could have ever become friends and partners, or how a mystical enchantress came to cast that fateful spell on the prince-turned-beast, this series will finally provide those answers…and provoke a whole new set of questions.”

“Exclusively gay moment”

Before the 2017’s movie’s release, director Bill Condon said in an interview Attitude that Disney would see it’s first “exclusively gay moment” via LeFou.

“LeFou is somebody who on one day wants to be Gaston and on another day wants to kiss Gaston,” he told us.

“He’s confused about what he wants. It’s somebody who’s just realising that he has these feelings. And Josh makes something really subtle and delicious out of it. And that’s what has its payoff at the end, which I don’t want to give away. But it is a nice, exclusively gay moment in a Disney movie.”
