Armie Hammer says he’s been pitched the ‘Call Me By Your Name’ sequel
Looks like a sequel to the Oscar-winning gay drama is getting closer
Armie Hammer has revealed he’s been approached for the Call Me By Your Name sequel.
The film, an adaptation of André Aciman’s novel of the same name, tells the story of Elio (Timothee Chalamet) and Oliver’s (Armie Hammer) relationship in 1980s Italy.
Director Luca Guadagnino revealed he’s already started work on the sequel and Armie Hammer has now confirmed that he’s been pitched the plot for the follow-up movie.
In an interview with IndieWire, Hammer said: “Dude, he [Guadagnino] broke down the whole script for us.
“I mean, it’s not a finished script, but he’s got all the ideas for it. Luca’s all gung-ho about it, and by the way, if Luca’s doing it, I think we’re all gung-ho about it.”
The 31-year-old then explained that while he expects to remain a major character in the sequel, he wouldn’t mind returning for a supporting role.
He said: “You know, the experience of making the first one was so pure and beautiful that it wouldn’t matter how big my role was. If the same people are involved, I’d do it all over again.”
“Everyone’s just happy to have [the film] done,” he said. “We all supported each other. This would’ve been a much different process if we didn’t actually love each other.”
Speaking at the 90th Academy Awards last week, where the acclaimed film won an Oscar, Guadagnino said that the sequel may be set “five or six years” later. He had previously revealed that the sequel will address the AIDS crisis and pick up exactly where the first film left off.
