Ahead of season four of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, competing queen Black Peppa has shared the experience of being the drag daughter of Season ten contestant, All-Stars four finalist, and RuPaul’s Drag Race UK vs The World runner-up Monique Heart.

Speaking to Attitude, Black Peppa shared that Monique Heart is their generous mentor and drag mother: “She’s been so loving, hence her name.”

Black Peppa noted the pair bonded having been through similar experiences in their lives and upon sharing the news with Monique Heart that they were going to be on the show: “before I even started filming, she helped me financially”.

Ahead of the queen from Birmingham’s start against the other queens for season four, they share that they are “so grateful” to have Heart’s guidance.

“I always want a mother figure, my family don’t really stay in contact with me as much so having that really meant the world to me,” Peppa added.

The 29-year-old Birmingham queen continued: “I couldn’t ask for a better person to mentor me and get me prepared for the show because no matter how much you think you can prepare, there’s nothing that can fully prepare you until you’re there.”

Peppa reveals that despite being friends from across the world, their connection was just as strong upon meeting in person.

“I was with her backstage fixing her wig and tying up her corset, it just felt right,” Peppa remembers. “I was like this is amazing, you’re from another part of the world and we just met and I just felt a connection immediately.”

Alongside Peppa in season four of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, there is a whole host of new queens including the UK show’s first transgender participant, Dakota Shiffer.

Schiffer shared with Attitude that it is a “privilege” to represent the community on such a beloved show and that she was “overwhelmed” by the opportunity.

She adds: “It can feel daunting obviously at times to feel like you have to represent everyone and everyone’s experiences because trans representation is few and far between, especially on such a massive platform.”

Peppa and Shiffer will be joined by ten competitors on RuPaul’s Drag Race UK which starts on 22 September.
