It’s been almost a decade since Britney Spears performed at MTV’s VMAs but she’s back.

It was the first time Britney’s performed at the VMAs since her ill-fated 2007 appearance, when, at the height of her personal troubles and mere months after shaving her head, she took to the stage for a half-hearted and critically-panned rendition of ‘Gimme More’, which only increased the public concern surrounding the singer. Screen Shot 2016-08-29 at 10.00.32 copy

But the Piece of Me singer – who’s just released her ninth studio album Glory – made a comeback onstage to perform a medley of ‘Make Me’ and ‘Me, Myself and I’.

Spears emerged onstage in a yellow sequin leotard before performing along to ‘Make Me’.

It did seem that Spears was playing backup to rap partner G-Eazy who takes up most of the spotlight during the performance and while this may not be a legendary Spears performance, it’s definitely up there.

Britney wasn’t alone at the VMAs however as Rihanna, Beyoncé and Ariana Grande took to the stage to perform.

Beyoncé stormed the stage with her own medley ‘Lemonade’  performance including ‘Pray You Catch Me’, ‘Hold Up’, ‘Formation’, ‘Hurt Yourself’ and ‘Sorry’.

Rihanna closed the show with another medley that included her hits ‘Stay’ and ‘Diamonds’.

The 2016 VMAs also saw performances from Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj, Nick Jonas as well as Kanye West giving a four minute speech on fame, poverty and Taylor Swift.

It was a big one.
