Taron Egerton has responded to speculation surrounding his sexuality following a recent Instagram post.

The Kingsman star, 29, left fans wondering about his current relationship status after sharing a picture of an unidentified man on the social media platform last month, alongside a heart emoji and the words: “Cutie. My boy”.

Egerton, who split from his girlfriend Emily Thomas earlier this year, has now cleared up any confusion regarding his sexuality, telling Metro that he’s “not gay” but considers it a “joy to support” his gay friends.

“One of the lads was at my London flat and I instagrammed a picture of him and said ‘Look at this cutie’, and a million outlets reported I was coming out as gay”, he said.

“I’m not gay but two of my mates came out when I was 15 and it was a joy to support them because, as a group, we are all secure in who we are.”

Taron, who has appeared in films like Legend and Eddie the Eagle since graduating from London’s Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in 2012, is next set to appear on the big screen as Sir Elton John in upcoming biopic Rocketman.

Written by Lee Hall, the man behind Billy Elliot the Musical and the 2005 adaptation of Pride & Prejudice starring Keira Knightley, the film charts Sir Elton’s rise to fame in the late ’60s and early ’70s.

The film saw Egerton undergo an impressive physical transformation to embody the legendary singer, which included having his hairline shaved, but the Welsh actor admitted the haircut was “not the one, expecially when you’re single and ready to mingle.”

Co-starring Jamie Bell, Richard Madden, Gemma Jones and Bryce Dallas Howard, Rocketman is set for release on 17 May 2019.
