Drag Race UK’s Ginny Lemon responds to reports she swore at RuPaul during shock exit

Exclusive: Ginny joins Attitude and Jodie Harsh to spill the tea on *that* episode on Tea Time in association with TAIMI.

By Will Stroude

Ginny Lemon has broken her silence over *that* unforgettable RuPaul’s Drag Race UK exit, and you better believe the Worcester queen has plenty to say about it.

After becoming the first queen in history to refuse to take part in the bottom lip sync and promptly leaving the stage, Ginny joined Attitude and Jodie Harsh to explain just what was running through her mind on Tea Time in association with TAIMI, the LGBTQ Dating, Chat and Social Network App.

Admitting she doesn’t regret the walk-off – which stunned the panel of judges and left viewers divided – Ginny says “I never went into that show as a competitor, I went into that show as an icon, and I always stay true to my own artistic character, no matter what.”

The Worcester queen goes on: “We are all in control of our own destiny – well, we’re not all in control of our own destiny, but we can be. If we’re put into certain positions, we can control that. And I thought, ‘Do you know what, I’ve been really emotional, you just don’t get it’.

“So I thought, ‘Why linger on into something where I see girls that are there to win RuPaul’s Drag Race, they want to win that title, and I’m not going to stand in the way of anyone’s dream’.”

Ginny adds: I’m going to do my thing, and I’m not going to stand in the way of somebody who genuinely wants to win a competition.

“I’m not about competitions. I mean, pitting queer people against each other is not my thing.”

Before the premiere of Drag Race UK series two, there were reports in the press that a queen had walked off the show, swearing at RuPaul and telling him to “f*** off” in the process.

Asked by Jodie whether she in fact had a few more, erm, choice words for Ru than were shown in the final edit, Ginny replies: “Well, don’t read everything you believe in the gutter press, darling.

“I mean, you saw the edit. Did I flip off Ru? I mean, just have a little look, do your own investigations.”

She goes on: “I can’t reveal what went on backstage. But, you know, who knows? Make up your own minds, but don’t read everything you believe in the press, darling.”

The freshly-eliminated queen adds: “Do you think I’m the sort of person that would flip off Ru? I mean, come on.

“As much as you could have feelings at the time, RuPaul is an icon – and from one icon to another, there is nothing but respect, you know?”

One judge not safe from Ginny Lemon is Michelle Visage though, who notably said she thought she’d “seen it all” from the queen prior to her exit.

Asked about Michelle’s comment, Ginny fires back: “I think she needs a new prescription!”
