Groomswear: 10 trends for Spring/Summer 2014
By Will Stroude

Tying the knot this year? Don’t know what to wear? Worry not, you’re in good hands. With the ever-increasing popularity of a more sartorial look returning to menswear, Gay Wedding Guide and les Deux Messieurs stylist Andrew White chooses 10 of his favourite suiting trends for Spring/Summer 2014.
1) Keep in check.
SAINT LAURENT PARIS
Checks continued to feature as one of the prominent patterns in the SS14 catwalk shows. Hedi Slimane works them in such a way they feel like a 21st century creation; perfect for a modern ceremony.
High Street option: Hyde Prince of Wales Check Wool Suit (£975).
2) Play it pure.
LOUIS VUITTON
White is synonymous with marriage ceremonies and always features strongly in these collections. Louis Vuitton’s Kim Jones gives a really sharp feel to his white looks by accessorising with black – a look we’d champion at a late afternoon wedding on the Amalfi coast.
High Street option: Dolce & Gabbana, Two Button Suit (£1,525).
3) Be bold.
TAILOR MADE LONDON
Don’t take it all so seriously: opt for an on-trend camouflage suit. It might raise an eyebrow or two from guests but truly sensational fashion always does.
4) Something blue.
MAISON MARTIN MARGIELA
Electric blue continues to be integral to the designers’ colour palettes for Spring/Summer 2014. It also benefits from giving a really healthy glow to alabaster skin. Wearing this stunning look from Maison Martin Margiela means you’re on trend and looking at your healthiest – perfect.
High Street option: Garth B Notch Lapel Blazer (£235).
5) Citrus bright.
SALVATORE FERRAGAMO
On one of the happiest days of your life it only makes sense to dress ‘happy’. You can’t help but smile and feel good when you are in sight of this radiating citrus orange offering from Salvatore Ferragamo.
High Street option: Acne Suit Jacket (£490).
6) It’s all geometry.
PORTS 1961
For lovers of the avant-garde, utilising geometric prints is a great way to push the boundaries. Ports 1961 has a number of incredible options for SS14 – just be sure to finding a venue as cool as the outfit.
7) An evening affair.
VALENTINO
Create a really sophisticated feel to your wedding by choosing an outfit with an element of ‘tuxedo’ to it. This beautiful midnight blue suit from Valentino has just the right balance with its contrast peak lapels and the addition of black tie.
High Street option: D Squared Classic Dinner Suit (£1,462).
8) The roaring ’20s.
BERLUTI
Dressing to the tune of a bygone era is a great way of adding an element of fun to the proceedings. We love the 1920s feel from Berluti. Perfect for a summer ceremony in the garden of a stately home.
9) Keep it short.
PATRIK ERVELL
Linen separates are a much used outfit choice for weddings in warm climates. Give your look a much more contemporary yet sartorial vibe with a short-suit. This option by Patrik Ervell feels perfect for waterfront ceremony.
10) Loosen up.
LANVIN
Following its vice-like grip on the sartorial silhouette, the slim suit’s dominance is now being challenged by a more relaxed cut. Alber Elbaz and Lucas Ossendrijver’s masterful touch for Lanvin produces a shape with beautiful movement and drape. Keep the look clear of accessories to communicate a real sense of relaxed elegance.
