Tom Daley just misses out on medal at diving World Cup
By Nick Levine
Tom Daley has narrowly missed out on a bronze medal at the diving World Cup in Shanghai.
The 20-year-old finished fourth in the men’s 10m platform final earlier today (July 20), behind China’s Yang Jian in first, China’s Qiu Bo in second and Mexico’s Ivan Garcia in fourth.
Daley had been on course for a medal, our friends at Sports Mole report, before a “severe over-rotation” on his fourth and most difficult dive saw him given a low score by the judges.
Consequently, he dropped down the leaderboard and was unable to recover enough points with his last two dives to snatch a bronze.
Daley, who won a bronze medal at the London 2012 Olympics, is still considered the favourite for a gold medal in the men’s 10 platform event heading into the Commonwealth Games, which get underway in Glasgow this Wednesday (July 23).
His Team GB diving colleague Jack Laugher picked up a bronze medal in the men’s 3m springboard event yesterday (July 19) – click here to find out more.
Daley appears on the cover of the latest issue of Attitude, and in his cover interview speaks extensively about his diet, training regime and future plans – click here for a sneak peek at Daley’s cover and interview.
