Matt Cardle: ‘I’m comfortable taking my clothes off’

Matt Cardle has admitted that he prefers wearing as little as possible when it comes to photo shoots.

The singer told Attitude that there is “less you have to worry about” when you’re down to nearly your birthday suit in front of the camera.

Asked if he is still nervous about stripping off in front of the camera, he replied: “Not really. The less you wear, the less you have to worry about if I’m honest. If you’re being styled and you’ve got clothes on, you start thinking ‘does this look right?’

“But, when you’re down to nearly your birthday suit it’s just you. You just sit there and try to look as good as you can.”

The X Factor winner said that not drinking has been a major factor in helping him get back in shape.

“[I’ve been getting in shape] since the end of January, but I don’t go the gym a lot,” he explained. “I skateboard, which keeps me in shape. I think it’s not drinking that has helped to take the weight off. It’s a lot to do with how you eat, but the alcohol thing is so important as well. People don’t think about the calories in alcohol.”

When we asked him if he would be up for going all the way for a future Attitude Naked Issue, he replied: “Yeah, if it came up and it was for the right cause then why not.”

Cardle is currently on tour in support of his third studio album Porcelain, which he described as his “favourite album” to date.

Melanie C is joining him in Manchester, Liverpool and London to sing their duet Loving You, which peaked at number 14 on the UK’s Official Singles Chart last year.

Asked if they have plans to work together again, Cardle said: “We definitely will. We’re great mates now and we work really well together.”

“I’m always in the studio and I’m always writing. I always try to keep swapping it up for myself and for the fans. There were parts of Porcelain that were difficult, but we got there in the end and it came out just the way I wanted it to.

“I think I’m going to take a little bit of time away before I do another album,” he said.

Matt Cardle’s new single Hit My Heart is out now.
