Cher: ‘My honorary gay card can’t be revoked – I’m a lifer’

Cher has insisted – via her preferred medium of Twitter, obviously – that her “honorary gay card” can never be revoked.

The Grande Dame of gay icons even suggested she is so gay she has essentially been implanted with a gay “microchip”.

The amazing comments came after Cher apparently misunderstood an exchange between two of her Twitter followers which she had been copied in on.

One of the followers threatened to withdraw the other’s “honorary gay card” because he had been checking out pictures of Cher, but the legendary entertainer seemed to think it was her honorary gay card being called into question.

In recent weeks Cher has tweeted about everything from politics, branding US right-wing group the Tea Party a “cesspool”, to a “delicious”-looking Magnum ice cream she had seen on TV. “I Think I Could Eat a “BOX”,” she said, before adding a not entirely fitting ghost emoji.

Over the weekend, she dished out advice to Eurovision champion Conchita Wurst, saying the bearded drag queen “deserves a lovelier name and wig”.

She has also used Twitter to hit back at a Canadian music critic who had mocked one of her gigs – as well as to lavish praise on Barbra Streisand’s “extraordinary” hands.
