Will Young opens up about living with post-traumatic stress disorder

By Josh Lee

Will Young has spoken for the first time about living with post-traumatic stress disorder, the Metro reported this morning.

The Jealousy singer, whose shock exit from Strictly Come Dancing left fans stunned, spoke about his mental health just before leaving the show, however it’s not known whether his exit was a direct result of the condition.

“I went into theatre, did Caberet for the first time and then I got PTSD,” Will told the paper.

He also spoke candidly about the symptoms he’s faced as a result, including “dissociation” and “depersonalisation,” explaining, “I couldn’t see my face in the mirror and I couldn’t recognise places or family or friends.”

The 37-year-old, who’s new documentary, Will Young: Who Am I, airs tomorrow (October 14) on London Live, sought treatment for the condition in 2012 at Khiron House in Oxfordshire.

LGBT people are more likely to suffer mental health issues than those outside of the community. For more information and resources, visit mental health charity Mind’s website.
