What happens when a guy dresses effeminately in New York?
By Sam Rigby
A new social experiment has exposed the harassment that effeminately-dressed men can receive on the streets of New York City.
Inspired by a similar video showing the heckling that women face on the city’s streets, YouTuber Dennis Cee dressed as an effeminate man and spent three hours walking around all areas of Manhattan. Watch the video in full below:
Overall, 50 instances of homophobic abuse were recorded during the three-hour period, with many referring to Cee as a “faggot” and one man trying to physically intimidate him.
Towards the end of the clip, one man begins to follow Cee and asks him if he wants to go home with him so he can show him “how to be a real man”.
Cee wrote about his experience: “It’s devastating that this is what homosexuals have to go through in their everyday life. According to recent gay harassment statistics, gay and lesbian teens are two to three times more likely to commit suicide than other youths.”
