Watch | People refuse to buy ‘gay turtle’ in pet shop

By Fabio Crispim

Gay Star News reports that Amnesty International and TBWA Istanbul have launched a new campaign

, #GayTurtle to mock the absurdity of homophobic attitudes.

In the video, an employee of the Turkish pet shop informs customers that the turtle they want to buy is gay and customers react badly with one person asking, “Is it contagious?”

Another customer states that they want, “A normal, non-gay, standard turtle.”

The video then provides a shocking realisation by stating that “Homophobia and transphobia have reached absurd levels in Turkey” and that in the last five years homophobia and transphobia have “caused hundreds of hate crimes.”
