The United States has announced it is reducing its $400 million dollar (£240 million) aid package to Uganda in response to the country’s anti-gay laws.

As of yet, there is no announcement concerning the amount of aid to be cut.

The news follows the World Bank’s decision to stop aid, as well as The Netherlands, Norway, Denmark and Sweden.

A US government official said in a statement to Reuters: “As a result of this review process, a portion of the US Centre for Disease Control’s (CDC) cooperative agreement with the [Ugandan] Ministry of Health has been put on hold pending this review.”

Earlier this month (March), a Vatican Cardinal condemned Uganda’s new anti-gay laws, saying: “Homosexuals are not criminals.”
