Ultra-Orthodox Rabbi says Covid-19 vaccine can make you gay

An ultra-Orthodox rabbi has told followers that getting a Covid-19 vaccine can make them gay.

Which, of course, is completely, totally and utterly factually incorrect – if that needs saying at all.

Rabbi Daniel Asor made the baseless remarks in a sermon earlier this month, according to The Independent.

“A New world order”

The rabbi, who has a large online following, told listeners: “Any vaccine made using an embryonic substrate, and we have evidence of this, causes opposite tendencies.”

He added: “Vaccines are taken from an embryonic substrate, and they did that here, too, so… it can cause opposite tendencies.”

His remarks about ‘opposite tendencies’ have widely been interpreted to mean homosexual, with LGBT+ rights organisation Havruta – which works with Haredi groups – jokingly responding that it’s “gearing up to welcome our impending new members”.

The conspiracy theories didn’t stop there: the religious figure also said inoculation efforts were part of a “global malicious government” trying to “establish a new world order.”

The Independent reports that 2 million Israelis have already received one dose of the jab.
