Two teenagers have been arrested and bailed as part of the investigation into a homophobic attack on a London couple.

Scotland Yard have confirmed that two 16-year-old males were brought in for questioning in relation the incident, which took place outside the Barclays bank on Whitechapel Road late on Friday night (June 20).

23-year-old Walter Adrian and his boyfriend, who has asked to remain anonymous, were branded “faggots” by the youths, who proceeded to physically assault them.

The attack left Adrian unconscious, with bruises around his temple and stomach, while his boyfriend has a swollen jaw. The couple were hit at least ten times.

The teenagers have been bailed until Friday, July 4 pending further investigations, according to the East London Advertiser.

Speaking about the attack, Adrian said: “We weren’t even acting gay and that’s what’s upsetting. Whether anyone is gay or not you just can’t feel safe. You’re scared of being attacked and afraid to go out by yourself.”
