Tom Daley wins gold at British Diving Championships

By Will Stroude

Tom Daley won the gold medal at yesterday’s British Diving Championships (February 22), admitting that there was still “work to be done” on his brand new ‘firework’ dive.

The 20-year-old collected his fifth 10m individual platform title at the competition in his hometown of Plymouth, where he scored scored 493.70 from his six dives.

The Championships marked the first time the Olympic medal-winning diver had used his world-first ‘firework’ dive competitively, but he scored just 61.2 of a potential 100 points for it.

“It was a weird feeling thinking I haven’t ever done this in competition before,” Daley said, adding: “I’m happy with the way it went, but I think in the future it should be better.”

Hollywood screenwriter Dustin Lance Black congratulated his boyfriend on the victory, tweeting that he was “so proud” of the former Attitude cover star’s hard work.

We revealed last week that the Oscar winner will join the Attitude Question Time panel at this year’s Student Pride, which is being held between Feb 27 and March 1 at London’s University of Westminster and G-A-Y.

As well as joining the Attitude panel, Black will sit alongside openly gay BBC presenter Evan Davis for a discussion about LGBT representation in film and TV.
