t.A.T.u’s management: ‘Don’t forget their LGBT support’
By Josh Haggis
t.A.T.u’s management has responded to the anti-gay comments made this week by one half of the faux-lesbian Russian pop duo.
In an interview on Russian TV, band member Yulia Volkova said she wouldn’t “support” her son if he were gay because “men should be men”. Read Volkova’s comments in full here.
The other half of the Russian duo, Lena Katina, later responded to her bandmate’s comments in a Facebook status, making clear that she doesn’t share Volkova’s anti-gay views. “Love is love,” Katina told fans, adding that we should all be “tolerant and not judge other people”.
In a statement released today (September 21) on the band’s official page on Russian social network VKontakte, the duo’s management say that they are “saddened” by the public’s decision to judge Volkova on comments that were apparently “taken out of context”.
The statement also argues that t.A.T.u’s support of the LGBT community at the height of their career should not be forgotten by fans. See a screen grab of the statement translated into English below.
After reuniting for the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics in Sochi, t.A.T.u. have since split up again – and released their last ever music video in April.
