Asked by presenter Kirsty Young if the newlyweds wanted to raise a family, the Fry replied: “We sort of talk about it and I suddenly think, ‘Oh my goodness I’m such an age now’, but actually that’s rather good, but we better get on with it if we do.”

The 57-year-old – who dedicates Ella Fitzgerald’s Do I Love You? to Mr Spencer – describes his new husband as the “great love of my life”, adding that married life is “bliss”.

“I’m still very much in the honeymoon phase, the I think we both are, I hope so, and new and miraculous things have happened in our culture and I wanted to celebrate that and what better way than to be married,” he said.

“It’s bliss, I do carry a ridiculous beam on my face.”

Meanwhile, Spencer recently revealed that the couple were forced to cut their honeymoon short after experiencing homophobia in Honduras – find out more here.
