Sri Lankan government dismisses legalising homosexual acts
Sri Lanka has rejected the chance to legalise homosexual acts.
According to the Daily Mirror in Sri Lanka, the cabinet met yesterday (17 Jan) to debate the matter.
Although they voted to reject decriminalising same-sex acts, and despite the protests of some ministers, the cabinet agreed to add “not discriminating against anyone biased on their sexual orientation” to their Human Rights Action Plan.
With same-sex acts by any gender remaining illegal, homosexual couples are not given the same protection as married couples, and there are fears that people won’t respect members of the LGBT+ community unless the law specifically says they should.
