Sean Penn: ‘People will look back through history and say we made gay kids commit suicide’

By Josh Haggis

Sean Penn has argued that this generation’s children are going to be ashamed of their anti-gay parents.

Penn, who won an Oscar for his portrayal of iconic LGBT rights activist Harvey Milk in 2009, has argued that the longer it takes for the world to change its attitudes towards the gay community, the more disappointed future generations will be when they look back through history.

“Children in this generation are going to have children and they’re going to look back at them and say, ‘My parents are responsible for the suicides of 13 and 14 year old boys and girls,'” Penn told Huffington Post. “The sooner we change it, the better our kids are going to feel about us.”

“We all have to work hard and be patient with how fast you can move with certain things relative to the backlash it’s going to take,” he added.
