Right-wing Hungary MEP quits after allegedly fleeing ’20-person orgy’ in Brussels

Right-wing Hungarian MEP (Member of the European Parliament) József Szájer has resigned after he was found with drugs while allegedly fleeing a 20-person orgy in Belgium last Friday.

Szájer was seen by an onlooker “fleeing along the gutter” of a Brussels building after a police raid which saw several arrested, according to reports.

As per Belga news agency, police visited the address after neighbours complained of noise and potential lockdown breaches. Of the over 20 people inside, most were men, some were naked and two (not including Szájer) invoked diplomatic immunity.

Belgian media outlets have described the party as a ‘gay orgy.’

Szájer, of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s rightwing party, has since apologised for breaking Belgium’s lockdown rules and quit his post citing “increasing mental strain.”

“I am sorry that I broke the rules of assembly”

A spokeswoman for the Brussels region’s deputy public prosecutor said the politician was spotted “fleeing along the gutter” and that “the man’s hands were bloody.”

“It is possible that he may have been injured while fleeing. Narcotics were found in his backpack,” the statement continues. “The man was unable to produce any identity documents. He was escorted to his place of residence, where he identified himself as SJ (1961) by means of a diplomatic passport.”

In a statement, Szajer declined to describe the party but called the incident [as per the BBC] a “personal failing”, adding: “I didn’t use drugs, I told the police on the spot I was willing to undergo an official test, but they didn’t do one.

“The police said an ecstasy pill was found. It was not mine, I don’t know who planted it or how. I made a statement to the police about this.

“I am sorry that I broke the rules of assembly. […] This was irresponsible on my part, and I will take the sanctions that come with it.”

The BBC adds that Szájer pleaded parliamentary immunity on Friday, but is now under investigation for non-compliance with measures relating to Covid-19 and drug law violations.

Meanwhile, the European Parliament has said immunity only extended to an MEP’s official duties and not their private life.

Szájer has been an MEP sfor 16 years.

Hungary’s ruling party is known for its hostility to LGBTQ+ rights. For example, it last month proposed a ban on same-sex couples adopting.
