‘Orange Is…’, ‘Philomena’ win GLAAD Media Awards
By Josh Haggis

Orange Is the New Black and Philomena were among the winners at the 25th annual GLAAD Media Awards in New York last night (May 3).
Hit Netflix show Orange is the New Black was handed the Best Comedy prize, whilst Judi Dench/Steve Coogan film Philomena took home Best Film.
TV icon and LGBT advocate George Takei was honoured with the Vito Russo Award, which is awarded to an openly lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender media professional who has made a significant difference in promoting equality.
During his acceptance speech, Takei thanked the world’s straight people for “making the gay babies of tomorrow”.
The event featured performances from Aussie pop icon Kylie Minogue and country star Kacey Musgraves – who became the first ever country singer to perform at the GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) Media Awards.
The New York event followed the Los Angeles instalment of the GLAAD Media Awards, which took place last month (April), and saw Jennifer Lopez and Orange Is the New Black star Laverne Cox honoured for their work in the LGBT community.
