Missing trans student Murry Foust is found dead in Kentucky

"Our hearts are broken and this is not the outcome we were hoping for," said Foust's family

The body of missing 22-year-old trans student Murry Foust has been found nearly a month after they disappeared in Covington, Kentucky.

The Northern Kentucky University student was last seen on 27 April 2026 carrying a yellow backpack around the Latonia area of Covington.

Police issued a public alert on 30 April and launched a large-scale search involving drones, water rescue teams and other search resources.

Alerting the local community in a statement via Facebook, The Covington Police Department called on the public to help them locate “a missing person”.

“Murry (Alexis) Foust, 22, of Covington, has not been seen since last Monday. Concerns for their safety have arisen, and your input could be crucial. If you have any information, please call 911 or 859-292-2234. Your tip may be the one that matters,” wrote the station.

An independent search party later discovered Foust’s body on Sunday (24 May) in Wilder, at the site of a former steel plant.

Foust’s cause of death has not yet been announced

Police said there is currently no evidence of foul play. The official cause of death will be announced by the Campbell County Coroner’s Office in due course.

As reported by ABC, the Covington Police Department said in a statement: “We extend our deepest condolences to the Foust family and their loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.

“While we are saddened by this loss, we hope this development can provide the family with some answers and a measure of closure.”

Foust’s family posted a statement on Facebook yesterday (25 May), one day after the 22-year-old Northern Kentucky University student was found.

“By now you have likely learned that Alexis ‘Murry’ Foust has been found and is no longer with us,” wrote the family.

“While our hearts are broken and this is not the outcome we were hoping for, we can only pray that finding them provides closure and comfort to everyone who is hurting.”

Northern Kentucky University also released a statement following Foust’s disappearance, saying their “thoughts are with their family, friends and all those impacted.”
