Kylie Minogue and Prince discussed recording a duet called ‘Baby Doll’

“An almost dream come true"

Kylie Minogue has revealed that she and Prince discussed recording a duet called ‘Baby Doll’ in the 90s.

Which, of course, would have been amazing.

‘Purple Rain’ singer Prince died in 2016 at the age of 57.

“I had an almost dream come true”

Kylie, who is gearing up for the release of new album Disco, said on the latest installment of The Zane Lowe Show: “I had an almost dream come true, which was with Prince.

“As a 14-year-old hormonally-charged music maniac, Prince is just ‘it’. I went to see his show, god, early 90s? At Earls Court. I got to meet him afterwards. I don’t know where I plucked up the courage from, but I said “I’m making an album…” I don’t know what I said. […] I’m more gutsy than I make out sometimes!”

The 52-year-old continued: “So we just kind of hung out  – I don’t know what that means – and he put me on the spot a bit and said: “Where are the lyircs?” I was like, “I don’t… where do you want the mic set up?’

“I must’ve seen him a couple of times. […] I just wrote some lyrics… I didn’t even write songs then! Gave him some lyrics… This is just so the old days, I love it. I guess I spoke with him on the phone and he said: ‘So my driver’s going to drop over the casette.’ The driver arrives – one of those home alone moments. There’s no one to share this with! This casette in my hands, with Prince singing a song called ‘Baby Doll”, that I kind of was involved with!”

Epic.

“We didn’t record it,” she then clarified. “I suggested it to my label and I think he would have wanted to do it all, and they weren’t into that. So, that was that. I might’ve been kind of gutsy, but I wasn’t sure enough of myself to say ‘No.'”

Oh, what could have been!

“I don’t know where the casette is,” added Kylie, before saying a music buff recently told her he’d heard Prince’s estate have the recording.

Last month, the star said she’s be “curious” to duet with fellow pop/gay icon Madonna. Do we sense a collabs album after the next one…?
