Kim Davis nominated for TIME’s Person of the Year Award

Anti-gay marriage clerk and evangelical Christian pin-up girl Kim Davis is up for TIME Magazine’s Person of the Year Award following a widespread nomination campaign by her supporters.
The Kentucky county clerk was the centre of arguably the year’s most high profile LGBT story, after she was jailed for six nights after violating a federal court order compelling her not to discriminate when issuing marriage licenses in the wake of the US Supreme Court’s historic ruling in June.
Liberty Counsel, the evangelical Christian litigation firm/anti-gay hate group who represented Kim in her trial, have thrown their weight behind the campaign, saying: “Who more than Kim Davis has influenced the news in the past year?
“Kim Davis inspired a nation and the world to fight for religious liberty when she chose a prison cell rather than sacrificing her conscience.”
Winners of the annual award – which recognises not the ‘best’ but the most ‘newsworthy’ person of the year – have previously included other delightful humans including Vladimir Putin and Adolf Hitler.
The final decision will made by TIME’s editors, and announced next Wednesday December 9.
