Kenyan leader: ‘Homosexuality is as serious as terrorism’

Kenya’s parliamentary leader Aden Duale has argued that homosexuality is “as serious as terrorism”.
Duale, who is the Majority Leader of the National Assembly of Kenya, described homosexuality as a “social evil”, according to Reuters.
However, he responded to calls for harsher anti-gay laws by saying the country does “not need to go the Uganda way”.
He said: “We need to go on and address this issue the way we want to address terrorism… It’s as serious as terrorism. It’s as serious as any other social evil.”
Earlier this year, Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni signed an anti-gay bill on live television that could see gay people facing life imprisonment.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s President Goodluck Jonathan signed a similar bill, which could see gay people facing lengthly custodial sentences, as well as banning advocacy of LGBTI rights.
