Jaden Smith tells GQ he doesn’t ‘get’ gender norms

By Will Stroude

Jaden Smith appears on the cover of the new issue of British GQ Style, and true to form, he’s quick to challenge any preconceptions about his gender-fluid dress sense.

The 17-year-old, who was unveiled as the face of Louis Vuitton womenswear in January, tells the magazine that clothing doesn’t depend on your gender identity, but how comfortable you are with yourself.

“I feel like people are kind of confused about gender norms. I feel like people don’t really get it. I’m not saying that I get it, I’m just saying that I’ve never seen any distinction” he says.

“I don’t see man clothes and woman clothes, I just see scared people and comfortable people.”

And if you wondered what a female Jaden would actually look like, the young actor says you needn’t look any further than his 15-year-old pop star sister, Willow.

“I’d say it’s like full-on sibling brain connection. I’d say that she’s definitely the female version of me, one hundred per cent, in every single way. And I’d say I’m the male version of her.”

Meanwhile, Jaden’s father Will recently revealed what he makes of his son’s headline-grabbing dress-sense during a recent UK radio interview – click here to find out more.

The new issue of GQ Style hits news stands this Thursday, March 17.
