I’m a Celebrity’s Lady C accused of homophobic remarks

By Troy Nankervis

Sparking controversy on and off the television screens, I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here contestant Lady Colin Campbell is now accused of making homophobic comments while in the depths of the jungle.

Leaving the tropical Australian rainforest behind last week due to medical reasons, Campbell is now rumoured to be considering legal action against Spandau Ballet singer Tony Hadley and Duncan Bannatyne for “insults”, “plotting”, and “running her out of the camp”.

Yet in his first interview since leaving the program, Hadley told the Daily Star Campbell was notorious for targeting others, which included homophobic remarks allegedly made towards choreographer Brian Friedman – but which never made it to air.

“I’ve never bullied anyone in my life. If anything, I defended people from bullying. I hate any form of bullying. I find it completely reprehensible, so to accuse me of bullying is just nonsense,” said Hadley.

“I don’t know where that came from. There are no grounds for her to sue. If she has got lawyers that watch all the VTs… then tell me who has bullied who.

Hadley said Campbell’s remarks included labelling Friedman a “queen bitch”.

“One thing I will say, talking about bullying – she got on Brian’s case and was calling him a queen bitch,” he said.

“I stood up to her and said ‘sexuality shouldn’t come into it’. It’s because of his sexuality she’s saying he’s a bitchy queen. You have to have a degree of integrity in this life and she crossed too many boundaries.”

Hadley and Lady C frequently clashed throughout the production which is being hailed as one of the show’s biggest ever rivalries, with the arguments first starting after Hadley refused to Campbell’s chambermaid.

“It wasn’t because I think it’s belittling. It’s just I don’t want to do that on national TV. It just did not sit comfortable with me. I’d never be able to walk into a pub in London. I’d get slaughtered when I walked in,” said Hadley.

“Lady C was the worst thing about being in there. I knew there might be a few curve balls but I never expected to fall out with someone quite as much as I did.”
