High school football player’s awesome coming out: ‘Sorry girls, I’m gay’

By Josh Haggis

A brave high school football player from Phoenix chose to use humour to help him deal with the stress of coming out whilst still in school.

Tired of having to hide who he was and pretend her was attracted to girls when around his friends, Sean Warren, 17, posted a picture of himself across all his social media platforms last November under the heading: “Deal with it”.

In a new interview with Outsports, Warren thanked openly gay YouTube personality Tyler Oakley for helping him feel more comfortable about his sexuality, and explained why he chose to come out the way he did.

“I just wanted to come out in a unique way,” said Warren. “I was at my friend’s house and thought, what if I just Photoshopped a picture of a rainbow behind me? Then I looked at more pictures online and saw the picture I used, which was more retro, it was more of a cartoon. What if I cropped out his face and used my face instead?”

He continued: “People describe me as a person who doesn’t really conform. I wanted to do something different than people just announcing that they’re gay. I wanted to come out in my own way, since that’s how I feel coming out should be. I wanted to do it in a fun sort of way and so it wasn’t awkward.”

“I am very proud of who I am and wouldn’t change it for anything,” he added.
