Gay Star News has closed down with immediate effect
A vital LGBTQ news source is sadly no more.

LGBTQ news outlet Gay Star News has closed down with immediate effect.
The LGBTQ publisher, which was founded in 2012 and helped to report queer news and stories from around the world, ceased trading on Tuesday (30 July).
The sad news was announced by the BBC’s LGBT Correspondent Ben Hunte on Twitter on Monday (29 July). According to Hunte, the company’s staff were only informed of the news 48 hours before pay day, leaving around 20 employees without a job or pay for the month.
“BREAKING: LGBT media group Gay Star News (@gaystarnews) will cease trading tomorrow,” the broadcast journalist wrote.

Gay Star News and its owners are yet to make an official announcement regarding the news, but a CrowdFunder has been set up to help raise money for the LGBTQ journalists left without jobs or pay.
A description explains the fundraiser hopes to raise “as much money as possible to support the hardworking team at Gay Star News who poured their hearts and souls into raising awareness for every member of the LGBTI community.”
