Gareth Thomas has said he hopes he has helped to show people that gay men and women can’t be stereotyped.

The former Welsh international rugby star appears on the cover of the latest Attitude with his boyfriend, Ian, and inside the issue the couple discuss their life together as well as Gareth’s experiences since coming out as gay.

“Well, I hope what it has done is educate people into knowing gay men and women are just like straight men and women and that we all come in different shapes and sizes,” says Thomas.

“Stereotypically we have the media to blame I suppose, that people think all gay men are camp and you can laugh at all gay men and they’re all funny or talk in a certain way because that was the only thing over shown on telly.”

PRIDE STORY COVERGareth, who came out as gay in 2009 and went on to be named Stonewall’s Hero of the Year in 2010, adds: “I hope I’ve educated people into realising you can’t pick out a gay man or woman just by the way they look or the way they talk.”

The new issue of Attitude is available to download to your mobile, iPad or tablet device now at Pocketmags.com/Attitude, and will be available to buy in shops from next Wednesday (September 17).

The digital issue comes with a special bonus mini-mag all about acclaimed gay-themed British film Pride.
